Product Review

This is one tough spatula. Its silicone head doesn't warp or melt, up to 600 degrees, and won't stain, either. Its thick, clear plastic handle, notched on the end for hanging on a hook or peg, doesn't stain. It goes in the dishwasher, too. But best of all is the little rest three-quarters of the way up the handle. Place it on a bowl's rim and the spatula won't slide into the batter or sauce. The spatula is 11 inches long, with a 3-1/2-inch head, and it has a lifetime warranty against defects. --Fred Brack

A spatula is simple device designed to help you stir, lift, and spread ingredients in cooking. Pyrex (and other manufacturers) have adopted the latest technological advances to make the spatula safer. Previously, most spatulas were made of rubber making it at-risk for melting when you stuck it into a hot cooking environment (e.g. a pot of boiling liquid). By making the tool out of silicone, it is now heat resistant to up to 600 degrees making it safe for virtually any kitchen use (except perhaps putting it over an open flame). Buy several since I sometimes find myself using many of them as I prepare elaborate multi-course dinners.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, but be careful in the dishwasher!, June 24, 2001

I really like this spatula and would buy another one. The only problem was that after about the third time I washed it in the dishwasher, I was disappointed to see that it came out with splits on both sides. It was not by knives so I have been puzzled as to what could have happened. I still use it all the time even though it has the splits in it.

I have owned 3 of these (and one of the narrow ones)and every one has snapped in two at the base of the handle with no unusual trauma. Anybody know of another heat-safe spatula out there?
