Wake up to fresh bread! The handy timer on this automatic bread maker lets you preprogram up to 13 hours in advance. The Toastmaster Bread Box offers eight settings, including programs for whole wheat, sweet, and French breads. Use the Fast Bake setting to make fresh bread in under one hour. The program for sweet bread cues you when it's time to add additional ingredients for special recipes, and the Dough program kneads dough for baking in a conventional oven--handy for making pizza, coffee cake, pretzels, and bagels. You can also choose between light, medium, and dark crusts for basic breads.
The machine keeps bread warm for three hours after baking. The nonstick loaf pan releases fresh bread and cleans up easily. The instruction booklet includes recipes for everything from white bread and focaccia dough to gluten-free breads. --Matthew Evans

Summary: GREAT bread maker! 2009-08-09
Comment: Well, I think my bread maker is about to give up the ghost. I have had this wonderful machine since December 1999 and have certainly put it through the paces. I make bread, rolls, and pizza dough on a weekly basis and have done so for nearly 10 YEARS! There is a small pin on the bottom of the loaf pan that has come off. We have reattached it a couple of times and it worked fine in spite of the 'surgery' we did on it. I am looking to find another bread aker just like it for when mine does quit permanently. I will miss this one though - TEN YEARS - what a ride!

Comment: I was given a Toastmaster 1148X Bread Machine December of 1999. This has been a GREAT machine. It has never messed up a loaf and is still working - 6 years and many loaves later. If this one ever dies I will search for another one just like it.

Comment: I bought this bread machine after my old Breadman caught on fire. Oh yes, it caught on fire. Anyway, after searching all over for a bread machine, I found this one in the least likely of places. Value City. It was $19.99 and I figured that I needed it badly enough that I could deal with a $20 waste if it died too. I have to say that I was VERY pleasantly surprised! It works a LOT better than my old machine and the bread turns out GREAT! The consistency is superb! I LOVE the shape of the pan. It's not too thin or too wide. I also LOVE how EASY it is to use. You dont need a PhD to program this machine. Anyone can do it.
I only have a few nominal complaints. It is HEAVY! It's not an issue for me because I use my bread machine daily and it lives on my counter. But it is HEAVY! And the other complaint is that it is a little louder than my other breadmachine was. That doesn't really bother me, but I am told it bothers some people.
I figure, for $20, this is the best investment I've made!

Comment: I bought this as a replacement for my Oster bread machine, which I literally wore out.
I'm not a fan of this machine. Evey loaf of bread I makes burns , even recipes that were tried and true in my old machine. And when I use the recipes in the instruction manual, there seems to be too much liquid or too little flour, because I never get a nice ball after the mixing cycle is over. It's always a loose gummy mess, no matter how carefully I measure.
For the price, you can probably find a better machine.

Summary: I have two of this machine! 2004-02-23
Comment: I used to have really expensive Panasonic bread maker(model SD_-YD 250), but after 1 year of use it stopped working completely Soo.. I bought this toastmaster breadmaker almost 1 year ago. I didn't expect this less expensive breadmaker was going to be my favorite kitchen machine. The best thing of this machine is definetely 3 things. 1. price 2. durability 3. simplicity. Since I bought this machine I am using everyday for my 3 kids and bread loving husband. Last week we decided to buy the same machine as 2nd bread maker( I have 2 of this breadmaker now!) since I can't keep up with my family guys' eating bread speed. Almost everyday I make 2 kinds of bread!
This machine is defenetely worth your money.
