Summary: PERFECT for Empty Nesters! 2008-11-14
Comment: This is my second Zojirushi breadmaker. The first made a huge loaf and once the kids were gone I didn't use it much so I sold it. I love Zojirushi cooking products and the Zo Mini is my fourth appliance by the company - I don't care about the high price - the quality, dependability, service make up for it.
This little machine makes perfect bread if you follow the directions exactly. My first loaf was perfect. Second loaf, perfect. You get the idea. As for slicing, I use an electric knife and slice from top to bottom to get about 10 really nice, tall slices. (One reviewer said the top and bottom slices are wasted - he/she needs to slice the other way!)
One of the best things about the machine is how quietly it runs. Another thing is how easy it is to clean. The loaf size is perfect for the two of us to have more than enough bread for a day, or two (if a Certain Someone doesn't eat a lot of toast for snacks!) And, it's great when my house smells like baked bread.
One caution - you need to learn to make bread machine bread - if you have baked a lot of bread in the oven you know that you can always add a little bit of this or that, add flour, throw in some nuts, whatever. Bread machine baking is very exact. If you don't like to make precise measurements, stop! Don't buy a bread machine!
Donna German's book is my favorite recipe book. The Zo comes with quite a lot of recipes and it's easy to adapt them once you get the hang of it.
This machine does not have a "whole wheat" cycle like my old one, but with adjustments it is still possible to make a great loaf of ww bread in this machine - you just have to add enough gluten to get a good rise. It's also great for making dough for other projects.
The footprint is quite small and the handle makes it easy to carry from place to place. My college daughter has threatened to steal it!
This would make a great Christmas gift for a single, childless couple, or maybe a couple with one small child. Otherwise you will want a bigger machine - the bread is so good it gets eaten right away!

Summary: I love my bread machine! 2008-11-14
Comment: My Zojirushi Mini Breadmaker is wonderful. It takes me less than 10 minutes to get out my breadmaker and all the ingredients, put them in the 'bowl' and put them away again. 3.5 hours later I have a perfect loaf of bread. It is perfect for a single person. My favorite bread is a Rye, whole wheat combo with rosemary. It is a snap to clean too. It has no short comings that I can think of. It is everything I could hope for in a breadmaker. It is quiet, has many settings for every thing imaginable, fits nicely in the cupboard, easy to read without glasses. Perfect in every way. It is worth every penny.

Comment: Works great but way too pricey. Made several loves of bread and most of them came out very good. I use fresh ground whole wheat and am trying to fine tune a recipe, so far the best I have come up with is 1&3/4 cup whole wheat flour and 1/2 cup white flour. Will experiment with more whole wheat with some wheat gluten and dough enhancer. For raisin bread I use 1 cup of whole wheat flour and 1&1/4 cup white flour.

Comment: This product worths to buy if you're looking for a bread maker. We used some other bradn before. This is very silent and bakes superior compared to the other. The size of loaf are ideal so we dont waste any breads. It may not suitable for a family of 4.

Comment: Costs more, but well designed, engineered, and manufactured. . . A refreshing change from the junky trash that we usually get these days.
This was the first time I have ordered anything from Amazon.com; and I am very pleased with their service. It was fast and shipping was FREE! The other place I looked wanted the same price plus an additional $40 to ship to the Islands . . .
Any fool can bake perfect bread using the recipes included with the machine.
This machine is VERY Quiet--I was a little concerned because I live in a high-rise filled with old folks and I like to do stuff like this in the middle of the night. Many bread machines have a problem with the pan attachment doing a lousy job which means that the pan rattles around in the machine and it sounds like a bunch of elves are trapped in there hurling marbles against the sides of the machine--not so with this one.
The flip side of this coin is that the notification beeps are also not very loud--I just set the stop watch on my wristwatch--I know that the "add stuff" (like raisins, etc) comes 17 minutes into the "rapid-bake" cycle and act accordingly. Also there is a countdown clock on the face of the machine so you can check at any time to see how much longer before it's done,
Caution--this machine is not at all programmable. I was aware of this when I purchased it, but my thought was "Well so what? What am I going to want to program anyway?" Since then I have become interested in sourdough which takes a much longer rising time than the machine allows--OOPS! Also, When using recipes from other sources (notably "Bread Machine Magic" which has all recipes in one-pound size) I sometimes find that the loaf is a little on the damp side and I'd like to cook it a little longer, but this machine lacks the flexibility to do so.
The finished loaf from this machine fits into a container 6"Lx4.5"Wx6"H. I believe that the slices will fit into a normal toaster, although I don't have a toaster and haven't tried it.
Last caution--I am not a big bread eater, but this bread is so good that I find myself easily consuming half of a fresh-baked loaf when my intention was just a "taste test". I'm an older single guy, and I find myself eating about a loaf a day (this will probably change as the novelty wears off) so if there's more than one of you, you may want to go for the larger Zojirushi.
The larger machine is practically the same price as the smaller one (only a tiny bit more expensive) and has some programming flexibility. Although it is advertised as baking 1, 1.5, or 2 pound loaves, I have read that it does a lousy job on the 1 pound loaf (just not enough dough for the big pan, I guess).
See the Yahoo bread-machine group for lots of helpful info.
If you're like me, you'll need some way to slice evenly. After much research, I ended up with the Black & Decker EK700 electric knife. It's also available from Amazon, it's cheap, and it does a good job. You will not need to purchase an additional "slicing guide".
Nothing like waking up in the morning to the smell of fresh baking bread (timer feature allows you to set it up the night before for a delayed start).
I guess you can tell that I think my money was well spent on this machine!
